Road Trip!

Are we there yet?  Heard that too many times?  Today I'm going to share with you a hybrid project that I did that might help reduce the number of times you here "are we there yet?" on your next trip.  I created a box to hold several travel games and cups for each traveler to hold their games pieces, score keeping pencils, or maybe a snack while they play some games.

THE BOX

The box is a cigar style box that can be found at most hobby/craft stores for less than $1.  All of the paper and elements are from the digital kit Exit #3 b y Stolen Moments, and available at Scrapmatters.com. The hill of green with text along it's path was made using Bend in the Road Templates also by  Stolen Moments (and also available at Scrapmatters.com).

I created the design in Photoshop (you can use whatever software you use).  Then printed the individual items and cut them out.  For instance on the top of the box, the background including the plaid paper, green hill and text on path, hilly road are one design that was printed.  The car, signs, road sign with title are each printed and cut separately. At this point you can ink all the edges and let dry.

I then used Mod Podge to adhere everything to the box. Be certain to press down and smooth firmly to remove any air bubbles or creases.  Allow this to dry thoroughly.

Time to seal it.  I like to apply several thin coats of matte mod podge on top of everything to seal it.  Allowing time between coats to dry completely and sand with a very fine sand paper if needed between coats.

Once all the sealant coats are applied and dried, I then adhered buttons for the car wheels.

THE CUP

To make the cup I used the Exit #3 kit by Stolen Moments as well as Popcorn Box Template by Simply J Studio available at Scrapmatters.com

This was so easy to do.  The popcorn box templates do the work for you!  Simply bring your papers and elements into the template as you would like them, print it, cut is and glue together per the included instructions.

Inside our box are Brain Quest games, a deck of cards, and the license plate game.  What will you be putting in your travel games box?  Let me know, I'd love to hear from you!

Birds, Boxes and Butterflies

Strange title, huh?  I was working on some hybrid projects for a Creative Team assignment and got to combine these three B's.

I worked with a kit called Fly Free by Jennifer Barrette.  It's a great kit filled with some calming, relaxing, soothing colors.  The elements lend themselves to home decor, encouragement, pages about the future, changes in life, new chapters. I think I might use them on a BOM page.

I made the box with a template by Geeky Diva Designs called Scalloped Packages.  You can get both the kit and the template at Scrapmatters (click on the links).

I also created a gift tag with the Fly Free kit. The bird and the cage are just so trendy right now.

I layered the papers into the box template and printed out to create the box. I made the tag using basic shapes in Photoshop.  I printed the elements for both separately.  I cut out multiples of the elements and then stacked them.  This gave some really nice dimension and realism to the projects.

I've filled the box with some potpourri and have placed it in the foyer.  Such a pretty thing to see (and smell) when we walk through the door.

I'm thinking the tag may find it's way onto a scrapbook page.

Fathers Day Card

This weekend will be Father's Day!!!  For the special guys in our lives I created this cool little hybrid card.  I've made tie cards before, but this one was so super easy and fun.  I used a template by WildBlueEyes over at Scrapmatters.  It was part of the "It's in the Cards Challenge" for May 13th.  Don't worry, you can get it too!  Just click here

I then used paper from Background Essentials by Jenn Barrette and the striped paper is from "I Heart Mommy" by Man in the Moon Designs.

If you've never played along in any of the challenges at Scrapmatters, you may want to check them out. There are some great fun challenges!! Click here to go to the Challenge Forum.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads, step-dads, granddad's and other influential guys out there!

A Slice of Summer

As usual, we are getting cheated out of a Spring season around here.  Summer is quickly warming up!  After the cold snowy winter that we had, I'm OK with the heat. It's the August-like humidity that I was not as anxious to welcome back.

To help welcome the summer I made this hybrid card.  I used some really cute digitial kits from Scrapmatters to create the papers and elements.  Fresh Squeezed by Jenn Barrette is just brimming with adorable fun summertime elements and colors.  Sail Away by Erica Zane has me wishing I was at the beach. And the cute little polka dot alpha is part of the huge collaborative kit called Life's Little Surprises.  This kit is anything but "little", 45 papers, 129 elements and more!!!

Happy Summer!!!  I think I'll go make some lemonade!

Never Yuck anyone else's Yum

Cute saying, huh?  Catchy and to the point.  It is part of a list of positive, inspiring sayings that my cousin accumulated during a recent training she did for her work.  As a follow-up to the training, she is giving each attendee a card they can keep out on their desk as inspiration.  It includes the "Thoughts to Ponder" from their educational voyage.

The "thoughts" are:
  • Happiness is a chocolate milk mustache
  • Never yuck anyone else's yum
  • Smiles go a long way
  • When you feel a bad about yourself, make someone else feel good
  • At least once a week, make the person you love feel special
  • Appreciate everything, you never know when it might be gone
  • No matter what today brings, find beauty in it.
I was thrilled to be asked to make the cards for this group.  I've just finished them.  Now it's time to get them boxed up for their trip to their destination.

 Ingredients:
Cardstock: American Crafts, Bazzill
Patterned Paper: K&Company (clouds), My Minds Eye
Stamps: Verve
Pencils: Prismacolor
Ink: Stazon (black, timber brown)
Glitter: Stickles (crystal)
