Nature Inspired Card

Today we start a new Card Caravan at The Hybrid Chick. Melissa picked the theme of Nature Inspired. This is my interpretation of the theme.

I used the digital kit Picket Fences by Wishing Well Creations for everything on this card.  I used papers for the flowers, bird and cage and even used one of the stamps to create the sentiment on the card.

This was designed and then print-and-cut on my Silhouette Cameo. I used Xyron and Beacon adhesives to piece it all back and assemble the card. I added some glitter to the flower centers for a little bling.

More of the States Mini-album

Early this month, I shared a mini-album that I am making about the states we have been to visit. You can find that post HERE. Today I've got some of the inside pages to share with you.

This is the most recent page that I have made.  Illinois and in particular, Chicago.  Why did I do this page this week? Well, Wendy at WM Squared Designs released a new kit this week called Great Escape: Chicago!

Wendy has been designing this fun packed series of kits for various travel locations. Not just the US. So be sure to check out all her Great Escape kits.

Here are some of my other pages.

California. Using the Great Escape and Great Escape California kit.

This one uses the Great Escape Washington kit.

I used the original Great Escape kit and a Silhouette shape to create the cover. The map was a free shape of the week in April. I've been adding a colored state shape to the map as we visit new places. Traveling is one of my most favorite activities to do with my family. There is still so much traveling I want to do!

There will be more Great Escape kits released in May! You can also grab some coordinating freebies on Wendy's blog. You can sign-up for Wendy's newsletter to be informed.

The album that I am using is a chipboard album that I got through Oriental Trading Company.

Blog Hop! and Giveaway!

Hey there and welcome to my stop along the way of the blog hop!!  Today we are celebrating the new release by Kelleigh Ratzlaff.  Kelleigh has this really cool seed packet card template and cutting files that will be released this week.  Here is what I created with it:

I made a Mother's Day card that holds a gift certificate. The entire card can be cut on one piece of 8.5"x11" paper.  You can use electronic cutters or print the lines on card stock and cut it out by hand.

I used my Silhouette Cameo and filled the cut file with some great digital papers.  The papers and elements are from a super cute collab kit called Spring Garden by Michelle and Cathy. That kit is chock full of goodness. Watch for another big journal project I'll be showcasing in May from this kit.

The seed packet can be filled with little goodies, seeds, or as I chose to do - a gift certificate!  Perfect as a card+gift combo. This would be a great way to present a little something special to all the teachers in your life.  Another great idea would be to make these up with some flower seeds in them and set them out as a favor at a wedding or party.  There are so many great things you can do with this!

Want a chance to win a $10 gift certificate to Kelleigh's store?  Just hop along with us and be certain to leave comments on each blog in the hop.  Kelleigh will be picking two lucky people, who will each win a $10 gift certificate to her shop! She will announce the winners on Friday at her blog.  But you need to leave your comments by 9pm (eastern time) Thursday April 26 - that's tomorrow!  So get hopping!!

UPDATE: If you were here early and saw the link for Donna's blog, I regret to tell you that she had computer problems today and was therefore unable to be a part of the blog hop. I've removed the link to her blog to help keep you all hopping along!

Your next stop is Elise's blog.

Life is Beautiful!

Sometimes you just need to have a card that shares how happy you are about life. It can be sent to someone that has accomplished something special, is celebrating a birthday, anniversary, birth or adoption of a child. Maybe to someone that you want to thank for being a part of your life. Or maybe just to let someone know that you were thinking of them.

Those are the mix of emotions that came to me when I saw the word art "what a beautiful life" in the A Spring day digital kit by Sahlin Studio.  That is what inspired me to make this card.

I created it using my Silhouette Designer Studio software. The sweet border is a cutting file from Amy Martin in her Edged Borders pack.

I printed everything on Red River Linen Textured paper and cut it with my Silhouette Cameo.

Mother's Day Card

Actually got something done in advance!!  Yippee. It was so easy to make using a recent release by Quirky Twerp called Ancienne Natural Paper Pack and Ancienne Natural Journaling Cards.  I printed and trimmed a second copy of the yellow bird to place on top of the May Arts ribbon.

Everything was printed on Red River Polar Matte paper. It takes the ink well and creates vibrant colors.

It Be Treasure, Matey!

WM Squared Designs has a new release today, called Pirate Pillage, that I got to work with. I created this treasure, er, um, candy dispenser!!  I used a silhouette cutting file by SnapDragon Snippets to create the box.

I printed the digital papers and elements on Red River Polar Matte paper. I them cut then using my Silhouette Cameo.  The paper has a nice weight to it. Sturdy enough for this type of project and works well in electronic cutters.

The top is removable to make refilling easy.  Of course I had to fill this with "golden" treasure - Werther's!!

Our Family Shadow Box

Here's a beauty I just finished.  I selected  a few of my favorite photos from the past several years.  I modified them all to be a variant of black and white with a slight chocolate tone.  That really added to the vintage feel.

I love shadow boxes. I've collected several vintage boxes from flea markets and have turned them into wall art.  This one, however is completely digital. Which makes it even more fun. I can include it in a scrapbook album, or photo book. And I can easily share it with family.

I love that I can now glance at this and be instantly taken back to so many wonderful memories!

Friends Forever

I fell in love with the purply-blue (is that a word? LOL) colors in this digital kit. It is called Forget Me Not by Alamama's Pressed Petals.  The greens are gorgeous too and really accent the purples.  This is a new release at The DigiChick this weekend.

Also released this weekend is the template set Eezy Peezy 8 by enKay Design. As soon as I saw this set of templates, I thought this would make an awesome card.

The sentiment is from own of my go-to must have in your stash digital stamps. The set is called Card Sentiments 2 and is by Arty Pants Digital Stamps.

I created this for the new Card Caravan at The Hybrid Chick. The theme for the next 2 weeks is "Spring"

Engagement News!

I have some really wonderful news!!  My sister recently got engaged!!!  I am so happy for her and her fiance!! They make the most awesome couple!  To celebrate just how happy I am about this, I made this card for them.  I had to wait to share it here until I was sure that they received it! Then I realized that over at Ideas For Scrapbookers, we were having a "wedding" theme this week for the Designer Showcase, so I held off sharing this until now!

I printed the sentiment on Red River textured white cardstock (Canvas).   I cut the silhouette out of some black American Crafts cardstock.  I used my Silhouette Cameo to do the cutting!  Then I layered the card together, added "bling" for the ring and popped the image with foam adhesive.

My sister's fiance has 3 children. So the good news just keeps getting better.... cause that means, I'm going to be an Aunt!!!  Love those kids already, this just makes it official!

Update: I've gotten some questions about the image on the card. The image on the card was cut on my Silhouette Cameo using shape "proposal_silhouette_C00976_20508" by Sarah Bailey. You can find the shape in the Silhouette store.

States Mini Album

This is a mini album that I am making with all of the states that we have visited. I cut the states using my Silhouette.  As we visit more states, I can add a colored state shape to the cover and add a page about our trip inside.  I made the states different coordinating colors. The more we travel, the more colorful the cover of this album will become.

This is the Free shape of the Week over the Silhouette Blog this week.  This is such a great shape to have for all those school projects too. Grab it up so that you can create some really cool stuff!

Pop up Birthday Card

During April I am guesting at The Lilypad. I'm so excited to have been asked to join them for the month. I've started off with this pop-up birthday card, made using pieces of the April BYOB (Build Your Own Collab). The pop up cake on the inside is super fun, but wait until you see the card front.....

Isn't that super fun with trendy chevrons?  And it was so easy to make!!  I used the Vintage Angles v3 templates by Amy Martin as the base for the card front design!  I also used papers from Chelsea Market Paper Pack by AWolff and Something Good: papers by Jenn Barrette. The elements are from Something Good: misc also by Jenn Barrette.

That's the great part about the BYOC goodies. You can mix and match all the papers and elements that make your heart flutter!!

I cut the card using my Silhouette Cameo. I designed most of the card front in Photoshop and then saved it as a .jpg file. This is what that file looks like:

I also saved each of the word art strips as .jpg files. To create the card front, I printed solid paper 3 from the Chelsea Market Pack on to one side of an 8.5"x11" piece of paper.

I then set up card shapes in my Silhouette Design Studio software.  I used the base of  Silhouette shape (1_thank_you_card_C01436_20509) to cut the card front.  I opened the file in Silhouette Design Studio software. Then filled the shape with the .jpg file I created for the card front.  To do this, simply drag the .jpg file onto the shape in your Silhouette Studio work area. Yep, it's that easy!  I then added the word art strips to the Silhouette Studio work area, traced them and print-and-cut the card front and elements.  I assembled the card front and scored it to mark the fold.

For the pop up interior, I used another Silhouette shape to cut the inside to create the pop up cake (pop-up_birthday_card_C00409_2581). I filled the "icing" and "candle" shapes with papers from the Chelsea Market Paper Pack, by dragging each paper on to the appropriate shape in the Silhouette Studio work area.. Then I print-and-cut the interior of the card on white cardstock.

I adhered the icing and candle pieces to the pop up, and work the folds prior to adhering it inside the card.  Carefully apply adhesive to only the parts of the interior that will be stationary, line up the fold line with the score that was made on the card base and adhere.  Ink the edges of the card and it is done!

This made a really fun card for my sons friend.
