Busy Weekend?

Are you enjoying your weekend?  Mine is gonna fly by.  There is always too much stuff to get done.  This weekend includes all the usual chores, my oldest working, my youngest having baseball practice, and more laundry than you can imagine.  Or maybe you can!  In which case, I completely sympathize!

This weekend also includes the Annual Special Needs Resource Fair that I put together with some help from some special social workers.  The 3 of us have managed for many years now to gather up resources of all sorts that offer services to people of all ages with any type of special needs.  It's a fairly big event. We get many, many families in attendance.  It takes about 4-5 months of planning and contacting people to bring it all together. I do this as a volunteer. But at the end of the day, when I realize how many people got to find out about and meet with a resource that just might help make their loved ones life and even their lives just a little bit better, well, that's what makes it all worth it.

I'll be wiped out after it's over. So if  you don't hear from me for a few days, I'm probably resting..... or just sitting in my chair digi scrapping!

Here are a few other projects that I did this week and wanted to share.
It's been so cold here for so long I'm just aching for some Spring time warmth. So I created this cute little birdhouse ornament.

And are you ready for this?  I got started on my 2012 calendar. Yep you read that correctly 2012!!  Having just finished my 2011 calendar in February (poor January never even got displayed!), I vowed to not let it wait until the last minute!
Since I never do any scrapping chronologically, I'm not doing my calendar in order either.  I started with November, just cause those were the pictures that moved me.  These are my boys when they were younger.  Just a simple afternoon of playing in the leaves.  Yet these are some of my most cherished photos. I love their expressions, my son Kevin even made eye contact!  Simple times, but great memories

Here is how it looks as a full calendar.  Well, I've got to be running.  Hope you are making the most of your weekend!

Open the Windows!

I wish I was able to do that for real. But it's just too darned cold out still. Even been snowing a bit this week.
I'm talking about windows on a card!  I'm hosting the It's In The Cards Challenge at ScrapMatters. I created a window card and template for the challenge.  I was inspired by my husband who was fixing all the window screens to get ready for the Spring weather.

Here's a view of the inside of the card
Want to give it a try?  Then head on over to the ScrapMatters blog to read about the challenge and grab the template. The preview below is linked to the challenge details.

Can't wait to see what you create!  Now if only the warm weather would get here so I could enjoy those newly repaired screens!

I was so excited when I got the invitation a few months ago and I've been just bursting to share this news with all of you!

I've got a great mixed-media-hybrid-altered-art project that I am sharing. You know I just had to try to fit in as many venues as possible!!  I've got some metal and recycling in there too.  That flower.... is made from a soda pop can!  For real!  Here's a closer look

I really hope you enjoy it. By the way, I'll be offering frames like this in my Etsy shop soon, so stay posted!

More Luck

Remember a few posts ago I told you about the shenanigans the leprechauns have pulled at our house?  Well, today I've got this layout to share with some pics from one of those times.  Unfortunately I didn't take photos every year.  This rascal has left green footprints, colored the milk green, broken things, eaten things, it's crazy!

I think my most vivid memory is one year my sister was staying with us. We forgot to "warn" her about the leprechaun and the mayhem he creates.  She was returning late that night after we were all in bed. She tried to come in the house quietly and without turning on the lights.  Poor thing tripped over a toppled chair and thought we had been robbed!!!  Wish I'd been there to get a photo of her shocked face!

Hope this is a fun week for you!

The banner got me thinking and I decided to make it into a birthday hat, which is a card!  Be sure to check out Ideas For Scrapbookers tomorrow, I'll be showing you how I made this card.

A Peak at Spring!

Today was an awesome day! Spring was in the air! I would like it a tad bit warmer still, but after the long, cold, snowy winter we had.... I'm grateful!  One of my sons had the great idea to get out and visit a historical park that is not too far from us.  We were able to meet up with my sister there too, so that was a double wonderful treat!

And guess what I got to photograph?  MORE DOORS!  I LOVE doors.  There is so much mystique about them. I admire the artwork that went into doors of long ago. They represent so much. The end of one adventure and the start of a new one???......

Here are a few that I captured today. Aren't they majestic?

The thing about doors is that you never know what might be on the other side!

Hope that you are having a wonderful weekend too!

Need for More Speed

Finally.  It's warm out!  I've even got the windows open today!  Love it!  This layout was done for a challenge that called for using pics from a warm destination! What came to mind????  DISNEY!  This hubby and 2 of the boys having fun scooting about in the motor boats.  I think they were wishing they had more speed!

The challenge is the Travel Scraps challenge at ScrapMatters.  Use that link to get to this particular one, which is #13.  Had to have at least 3 pics, bright happy colors, and use an alpha and font in the title.  Come on, stop by and give it a try!

I used the kit Lakeside by WM squared Designs and Stolen Moments.  Those elements were just perfect for this memory!  I also used the brand new just released today template pack called Be Inspired Whit v2 by WM squared Designs.

And of course as always..... there are hidden Mickeys on my page!
It's been a rather crazy week.  I've got several more projects in the wings.  Just not quite ready to be shared.  Hopefully I'll have more time for posting and sharing them next week.  For now, have a great weekend and enjoy!

HINT:  If you're trying to find the Mickeys, clicking on the image should make it larger!

Lucky the Leprechaun

Do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day? I think that is the one day that we all become just a bit Irish.  For years we have had a Leprechaun that has visited our house on the eve of St. Patrick's Day.  He wreaks havoc!  He has toppled chairs, strewn things about, knocked pictures off the wall and even left little green foot prints trailing through the house.  Every year, my boys would attempt to build a trap to catch him.  Somehow that lucky Leprechaun would evade their plans to snarl him in their creative schemes. We nicknamed him Lucky!

Although, I'm not sure who was the luckiest.  In his efforts to quickly escape unseen, he would leave a trail of gold!  Must have fallen right out of his pot o'gold.  His gold coins would always change to be those cute little gold wrapped chocolate treats.  Something to do with crossing through the fairy-real world time continuum??? Or so the boys explained.  So we were actually the lucky ones that ended up with all that chocolate to enjoy!

In honor of that little leprechaun, I made this card.  After all that little lad was definitely "too cute to pinch"  !!!

Secret Crush Pocket Card

Here's a quick card project for you.  A pocket card that is turned on it's side!

I made this using the digital kit Orange Crush by Jennifer Labre.  It's for the It's In The Cards Challenge today over at ScrapMatters. You should check it out!  You can snag the template for this card FREE!

You know I tend to make things that are masculine - after all, I live with my hubby and sons, so I'm surrounded by "guys".  I wanted this card to work equally well for a male recipient as it would for a female.  So here is how I accomplished that.

The fold-over edge is dry embossed using the Tim Holtz Bricked and Woodgrain embossing folder. I then gave it a touch of bling by spritzing it with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Antique Bronze.  This little bit of sparkle plays off the glittery elements and flowers on the front of the card.

I used the epoxy sticker element to create a tab to pull the inside card from the pocket.  So cute, it says "I've got a crush on you". On the inside card I left space to list 10 things that you love about the recipient.

Thanks to Amanda (abhall76) for sharing this fun template through the challenge!

Art Journal

Today at The Hybrid Chick I'm sharing how I created this mixed media Art Journal.  I used a combination of digital papers and elements, metals and fabrics. I made this as a custom sketch pad for me to store my inspiration and sketches.  You can get to the post through this direct link as well.

Rainbows and Butterflies

Spring is coming. Really. Even though the temps around here have plummeted again!  I know Spring is coming.  The daffodils and tulips have started to pop up and soon will be blooming!  Doesn't this card just transport you to a happy warm Springy place??!!  It does for me!

I blinged up the daisy border with some sugar coated glitter and gave the itty bitty clouds that the rainbow is floating in a touch of Stickles.

The papers are all digital from a brand new kit releasing today called Rainbows and Butterflies by WM [squared] Designs and Graham Like the Cracker. It's super charged with all sorts of warm Spring goodness!

New Card Sentiment Digital Stamps

I just love how this card turned out!  It was super easy too.  I used one of the brand new Card Sentiment Digital Stamps by Arty Pants.  You can add a special message to your cards and customize it to match your design.

For this card, I resized the stamp to fit perfectly on the paper that I then cut using a Spellbinders die.  I also clipped the red paper to the stamp so it matched my design.  Easy-peasy-lemon-squeesy!

You get a great selection of expressions and styles in this set too.  You can grab them at The DigiChick Boutique.

Forgot to mention that I have submitted this to the Shabby Tea Room for this weeks challenge.  Fingers crossed!!!!

Wrapping up Some Home Decor

Hey there!  Remember me telling you about all the cardboard wrap that my dad gave me?  Yep, I'm still trying to use it up!  You can see it in this project!
This was a typical large Yankee jar candle.  Then I set out with some paper, craft knife and glue and transformed it!
I printed out some digi papers for the wrap, label and flower.  To create the flower, I punched several scallop circles from paper that I printed on both sides (2-sided).  I then spritzed them with water and scrunched them up. After unscrunching them (is that a word? Well, it is now!), I gathered them in the center using a brad and rescrunched (another new word??!!) them into the flower shape.  I sprayed it with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist to add a bit of sparkle. A Queen and Company pearl completes the center.

I adhered the flower to a label cut from the same paper (just featuring the other side) using a Spellbinders Die. Added some punched leaves, and gems. I used hot glue to attach the paper wrap to the cardboard.
I'd really like to be able to use this when the candle is done, so I made it easy to remove and place on another candle.  I used eyelets and ribbon to lace it up like a corset.  So even the back is pretty too!

I must add a disclaimer that you should never leave candles burning unattended or near anything flammable, you should extinguish the flame if the jar becomes excessively hot, or the candle burns down to less than .25" remaining in the bottom (it could cause the glass to crack).  You should trim the wick so the flame is not too large, do not burn the candle with the lid on. You should place your candle on a heat tolerant surface away from breezes or direct air circulation.  I have to include this info, my husband the Fire Marshal would be upset if I did not!

Hope this inspires you to dress up a jar candle to go with your home decor or as a nice gift for someone special.
